The LSD 41 Whidbey Island-class Dock Landing Ships support amphibious assault operations including landings via LCACs, LCUs, and helicopters onto hostile shores. The LSD 41 class ships were specifically designed to accommodate and provide repair for LCAC landing crafts. Two Mk 38 25mm and six 12.7mm machine guns and two Mk 15 Phalanx provide firepower protection against incoming threats.
